Eastern Red Cedar and Epoxy bowl/dish

This bowl is very unique because the cedar is a slice of the tree trunk or branch. In woodworking terms, this is called a “cookie.” The reddish cedar color is prominent but also displays some beautiful lighter color, which is the sapwood. The sapwood is the outer part of the tree which surrounds the reddish part commonly known as the heartwood. 
A combination of green and purple epoxy resin was used to fill the gaps in the cedar. 
The bowl was finished with three coats of laquer.
