Birch and Epoxy Resin Cake Plate
This cake plate took a number of steps to complete. First, 2” sections of birch branches were cut and allowed to dry for 1 year. Then each piece was glued in a round mold. The copper colored resin was poured into the mold and allowed to cure for four days. The piece was then removed from the mold. A pyrography tool was then used to burn the Spalted lines into each piece of wood, following the natural contours. The final step was to add a coat of clear epoxy.
The base is made of oak and paduk which were then lacquered and waxed.
Dimensions: the cake plate itself is 12” round and 1” thick. The base is 7 1/4” round and 7 1/2” tall making the total height 8 1/2”.
